HAITIAN HERITAGE MONTH KICKS-OFF IN NORTH MIAMI WITH ARTISTIC FLAIR
North Miami, FL – 5/5/2016
“Haitian Heritage Month will kick-off in grand style on Friday, May 6th, at the North Miami Public Library located at 835 NE 132 Street. Come and see the world through the eyes of Haitian artist, Isaie “Zeek” Mathias’ exhibit of “Haiti Too Rich To Be Poor: Images of a Beautiful Island.” Through reminiscent photographs and innocent diary accounts, Mathias contrasts the general perception of the country’s poverty with the reality of its natural beauty, its cultural contributions, and human resilience. The larger than life art pieces will be on display throughout the North Miami Public Library during the month of May.
North Miami Mayor, Dr. Smith Joseph will host the Outstanding Community Builders Award Reception in honor of prominent community leaders on Thursday, May 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the MOCA Paradise Courtyard located at 770 NE 125 ST. More events for the month include, the 4th Annual Taste of Haiti, MOCA Family Day and Haitian Flag Day celebrations featuring Haitian compas bands, Zenglen and Harmonik. All the events are free and open to the public.”
